A New Book: Man's Final Lore
At last, my Melville book is finished. It is a collection of poetry composed by Herman Melville from the period of the Civil War to the end of his life in 1891. As I always do, I shall print the blurb here & allow it to be followed by links to the various Amazons:
In 1866, Herman Melville’s first book of poetry was published. In 1891, only months before his death, his final book of verse was published, though only privately. Between the publication of these two books, Melville laboured as a customs officer and poet, rather than as a novelist, which he is remembered as today. Though he is almost alone remembered for his great novel, Moby-Dick, Melville was no less masterful a writer of verse than many of America’s best remembered poets. In this collection of forty-three poems, Melville’s poetical talent is treated with the due care which it long ago ought to have been.
